Distribution of Points in ICC World Test Championship
In order to ensure fair play in the test championship points, table ICC decided that the same points would be awarded for the series so that teams playing more would have no leverage over the test points table. The points garnered would be divided equally into the number of matches of the series so that matches that didn’t determine the series would also be taken seriously. For test champion points, it would be fair to say that in a five match series, each match would accrue 20% points. The following shows the distribution of points of the wtc points table.
Matches in series | Points for a Win | WTC Points for a Tie | WTC Points for a Draw | WTC Points for a Defeat |
---|---|---|---|---|
2 | 60 | 30 | 20 | 0 |
3 | 40 | 20 | 13 | 0 |
4 | 30 | 15 | 10 | 0 |
5 | 24 | 12 | 8 | 0 |
Furthermore, it also arrived at that a team that was not following the over rate standards would be penalized after the end of the match, with two points being deducted from each over from the world test championship points table 21. South Africa became the first team to be penalized under this rule, which led to a deduction from their world test championship points.
