As per the IPL 2023 schedule, the 16th edition of Indian T20 Premier League is all set to go commence from 31st March and will continue until May 21, 2023. This will be the second consecutive year that the league will be conducted in India after the COVID pandemic.
With Gujarat Titans winning their debut league championship and the possibility of MS Dhoni playing his last league, fans are eagerly looking forward to see their favourite franchises and players in action.
That said, fans are also looking for a comprehensive detail of about the 2023 Indian Premier League at a single page. Therefore, we have compiled a detailed data of all possible information regarding the 16th Indian Premier League so you can have the knowledge of every event surrounding this mega cricketing event.
The IPL 2023 auction took place on 23rd December and witnessed a major overhaul across the teams, especially Sunrisers Hyderabad. That said, let’s look at the team wise detail of all the action that took place in the auction and what the team looks like after the auction.
Speaking about the four-time league champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the franchise has retained 18 of its players which includes six overseas players. On the other hand, they have bought Kyle Jamieson for 1 crore and Shaik Rasheed, Nishant Sidhu, Ajay Mandal, and Bhagath Verma for INR 20 lakh each.
Delhi Capitals have retained 20 of its previous players from the previous year’s squad. These 20 players comprise of six overseas players and 14 domestic players. They have bought five players Mukesh Kumar, Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey, Phil Salt and Ishant Sharma for INR 5.5 crores, 4.6 crore, 2.40 crore, 2 crore and 50 lakhs respectively.
The defending champions and the Hardik Pandya-led squad has retained 18 of its players. There are five overseas players of these 18 players. The team has purchased Mohit Sharma, Josh Little, Shivam Mavi, Bharat, Urvil Patel for 50 lakh, 50 lakh, 40 lakh, 20 lakh and 20 lakh respectively.
The two-time league champions have retained 14 players out of which 5 are overseas players. To complete their squad, they have purchased eight players, Shakib Al Hasan for 1.5 crore; David Wiese for 1 crore; Jagadeesan for 90 lakh; Vaibhav Arora for 60 lakh; Mandeep Singh for 50 lakh; Litton Das for 50 lakh, Suyash Sharma for 20 lakh and Kulwant Khejroliya for 20 lakh, for a total of 5.40 crores.
The Lucknow Super Giants did not have a great start to their journey in the league cricket. The team and the coach had a great pressure to make some new changes. Perhaps this is why the team has retained 15 players for total of ? 71.65 crores.
Nicholas Pooran, Daniel Sams, Jaydev Unadkat, Amit Mishra, Naveen-ul-Haq, Yash Thakur, Prerak Mankad, Swapnil Singh and Yudhvir Charak are the players they have purchased for INR 16 crore, INR 75 lakh, INR 50 lakh, INR 50 lakh, INR 50 lakh, INR 45 lakh, INR 20 lakh, INR 20 lakh and INR 20 lakh respectively.
Mumbai Indians, the five-time league championship winner, was the one team which had disappointed the fans with their performance. They not only ranked last in the league but also failed in meeting the fans expectations. As a result, a overhaul was expected in the team.
The team retained 16 players for the IPL 2023 league edition out of which five players are the overseas players. They purchased six players, Cameron Green for 17.5 crore; Jhye Richardson for 1.5 crore; Piyush Chawla for 50 lakh; Duan Jansen for 20 lakh; Vishnu Vinod for 20 lakh and Raghav Goyal for 20 lakhs, for 20.1 crores.
Punjab Kings retained 16 players for the 16th edition of the Indian T20 Premier League out of which five are overseas players. The team has purchased three players, Sum Curran for INR 18.50 crores; Harpreet Bhatia for 20 lakhs and Kaverappa for 20 lakhs. Curran with the price of 18.50 crores became the costliest player of the league.
Rajasthan Royals have retained 16 players and bought eight players for 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. Out of the 16 retained players, four are from overseas.
Meanwhile, the eight players they purchased and their prices are Adam Zampa for 1.5 crore, Joe Root for 1 crore, Donovan Ferreira for 50 lakh, KM Asif for 30 lakh, Kunal Rathore for 20 lakh, M Ashwin for 20 lakh, Akash Vashisht for 20 lakh, and Abdul Basith for 20 lakh. It will, undoubtedly, be interesting to see how the new team performs under Sanju Samson.
RCB is one of the few teams who have failed to win the league championship till now; however, they have managed to make millions of fans across the country inspite of that. The squad remains same as they retained 18 players and purchased only eight players.
The new faces in the team are Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Rajan Kumar, Himanshu Sharma, Manoj Bhandage, Mayank Dagar and R Sonu Yadav. They have purchased the players for 3.20 crore, 1.90 crore, 70 lakh, 20 lakh, 20 lakh, 20 lakh, and 20 lakhs, respectively.
Sunrisers are perhaps the only team, who modified half of their team by retaining and purchasing 12 players each. The 12 players which the team purchased are Harry Brook, Henrich Klaasen, Adil Rashid, Akeal Hosein, Mayank Markande, Romario Shepherd, Vivrant Sharma, Samarth Vyas, Sanvir Singh, Upendra Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Anmolpreet Singh.
The SRH management purchased these players for Brook, Klaasen, Rashid, Hosein, Markande, Shepherd for 13.25 crore, 5.25 crore, 2 crore, 1 crore, 50 lakh, 50 lakh and Sharma, Vyas, Sanvir, Yadav, Kumar, Anmolpreet for 20 lakh each.
The 16th edition of the league will witness ten teams, who are divided into two groups, competing for the coveted title. According to the board, each teams will play 14 group-stage matches. While they will play one match with their group team, they will compete against the team of other group twice.

Among all the fiasco and the updates pertaining to the Indian Premier League, the most critical is inclusion of new rule called Impact Player. As per this rule, each team has the option to decide upto four substitutes in their squad for a match. These substitutes will be the additional players to that of the Starting XI and one of these substitutes can be played during the match.
Unlike the last year, A total of 12 venues have been selected to host the group matches of the Indian T20 Premier league as per the updated IPL 2022 Schedule. It will be interesting to see if the change in venues will affect the gameplay of any team or not.
