While Yuvi gave us many memories from Under 19 world cup to his last match in 2017 across domestic leagues, the Indian T20 league, GT20 & the recently concluded T10 league, let us take a look down the memory lane as to what makes Yuvi 12 immortal:

1. 2000 Nairobi: India vs Australia

A flamboyant young left hander laid his feet on the international stadium in Nairobi against a challenging opponent and the then world champions Australia. Yuvi enthralled the cricketing world with his 84 off just 80 balls that helped India win the match against a pace attack that Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillespie & Brett Lee. This was Yuvi’s first innings with the bat as he didn’t get a chance to bat in his debut match against Kenya.

2. 2002 Natwest Trophy Final: India vs England

That iconic night of Natwest Trophy final is one of the golden moments of cricket where Yuvi’s 69 and Kaif’s 85 would be cherished for a long time in the history of cricket. India chased down 325 after centuries from England’s Marcus Trescothick & Captain Nasser Hussain. Saurav Ganguly’s tshirt celebration and the vibe at Lord’s made this memory all the more special.

3. 2002 Champions Trophy Semi Final: India vs South Africa

The proteas were on song to reach on to the finals of the tournament. Hitting the ball really really well, Jonty Rhodes dashed one to short fine leg but Yuvraj Singh had other plans. He flew like a panther to grab the ball with his right hand and took one of the greatest catches ever taken in the game of cricket. Rhodes was shocked and the proteas choked down as the next 6 wickets fell in quick succession.

4. 2003: India vs Aus 139(122)

While VVS Laxman was on a rampage in this tournament, the 2003 VB series saw Yuvraj Singh taking the Australian bowlers on the attack as he scored a quick-fire 139 off just 122 balls that helped India put on 299 on a fast-paced Australian wicket. India might have lost the match but the 38,800 people on the ground would cherish that innings for their lifetime.

5. Lone Warrior: India vs West Indies 93

In another losing cause, when India lost 9 wickets for just 130. Yuvi was the only hope who took the score to 198 against the West Indies. Dwayne Bravo bowled a slow Yorker that bowled Yuvi out and India lost the match by just 1 run. Yuvi scored 93 in this match and almost single handedly had won it for his country. This innings is still counted as one of his best against a foreign crowd in the Caribbean conditions.

6. 2007: THE SIX SIXES vs Eng

Stuart Broad, Andrew Flintoff, Paul Collingwood and the entire English team still have nightmares of Yuvi hitting six sixes to one of the best Test bowlers at the time. This was one of the rarest feat and the entire Kingsmead Durban stood up on their feet to celebrate the occasion. Yuvraj demolished the opposition completely after a heated argument with Flintoff. An interesting fact here is, that Yuvi had also hit a 7th six on the 7th ball he faced after this over that was bowled by Flintoff himself. What a match, what a player!

7. 2007: India vs Aus 70(30)

After the carnage vs England, Yuvi began the innings against the Aussies right from where he left off. He made 70 off just 30 balls amassing a competitive total of 189 that India were able to defend to knockout world champions Australia. Banners of ‘Yuvraj for President’ were spread out in the entire stadium while history was being made in Durban.

8. Partnerships with MS Dhoni

The 2008-09 series where MSD & Yuvi completely demolished the Pakistan team is still considered to be one of the best bromances in cricket. The Yuvi-Dhoni duo became a sensation overnight and it was certain that either of the two of both of them would chase any target that the opposition would set. This was the prime of Young India when the IPL had also kicked off in style.

9. 2011 WC vs West Indies Century

The first signs of Yuvi struggling with his health were seen in this match where he almost passed out on the field. He knew he was suffering from lung cancer but wanted to play the World Cup and win it for the country and his idol, Sachin Tendulkar. His 113 off 123 completely won it for India in the 42nd match of the tournament as India continued their winning spree in the 2011 world cup.

10. 2011 WC: India v/s Australia

That iconic bat smashing the air celebration after knocking out Australia from the 2011 World Cup Quarter Final is still fresh in every Yuvi fan’s memory. Yuvraj dominated the Aussie bowlers like Brett Lee smashing each and every ball on the offside for a boundary and along with Suresh Raina, finished off the game in style. Cricket Australia was shocked as the 4 time champions had to face defeat on the world series stage.

11. Fight over Cancer: YWC

We all know about his struggle against cancer and how he defeated it and came back. Yuvi showed his warrior ability in real life and fought against the deadliest disease known to mankind like the Champion he is. Bringing his initiative of YouWeCan, Yuvi now helps millions across the globe fight cancer and live a better life. A Champ on the field and a Champ off it: That’s Yuvraj Singh for you.

12. 2017 India vs England : 150 on Return

They said there’s no cricket left in him, they said he should rather retire, they said he ain’t fit anymore and then he came back, scored his highest individual total against England in 2007 that made the cricketing world respect Yuvi Paa even more. That century celebration where he thumped his chest denoted not just his comeback from cancer but perhaps something way more that that. 150 and a partnership with his old pal MS Dhoni and India won the match with ease.

Happy Birthday Yuvi Paa on behalf of the entire BalleBaazi family and your fans around the world.
