The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is a franchise cricket team based in Bangalore, India, that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB has been one of the most closely followed teams in the IPL since its inception in 2008 and is known for its star-studded lineup and passionate fan base.

Some of the key players who have represented RCB over the years include Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Although RCB has made several appearances in the IPL playoffs, they are yet to win the tournament. Despite the lack of success, RCB has produced some of the most memorable moments and individual performances in the history of the IPL. Let’s look at RCB’s highest scores in IPL history today.

263/5 against Pune Warriors India (2013)

RCB’s highest score in IPL history came in the form of Gayle Storm. There was no stopping Gayle from smashing the field. The West Indies international hit 17 maximums into the bleachers in front of the home fans and struck out an unbeaten 175 off just 66 deliveries.

With a massive 263 from their allotted 20 overs for the loss of five wickets, RCB recorded the greatest total in the history of the franchise against Pune Warriors India. Pune was therefore limited to a meagre 133 runs and was already in a deflated state when they entered the batting order.

248/3 against Gujrat Lions (2016)

RCB chose to bowl first after winning the toss against Gujarat Lions, but they soon realized that they had merely won the toss that day. The explosive combo of Kohli and de Villiers put on a spectacular display for their fans in front of a loud home crowd by hitting 109 and 129, respectively.

They each scored 20 sixes and 15 boundaries as the team amassed 248 points. In the end, the Gujarat Lions were bowled out for 104, and RCB won by the biggest margin ever in IPL history.

235/1 against Mumbai Indians (2015)

Second on the list of RCB highest scores in IPL comes against Mumbai Indians. De Villiers and Kohli launched an assault of epic proportions. The Mumbai Indians’ bowlers had little chance that day because skipper Sharma had no strategies for dealing with this type of batting.

Both players stayed unbeaten against Mumbai Indians at home, with Kohli scoring 82 runs off 50 deliveries and the former South African captain scoring 133 runs off 59. They scored a combined total of 26 boundaries and 9 sixes, limiting Mumbai Indians to 196 as Harshal Patel claimed two wickets.

227/4 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016)

The match RCB played at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad was a preview of the season to come. Gayle was forced to leave the game early but Kohli and de Villiers continued their attack.

The Sunrisers bowlers failed to stop the duo’s outstanding stroke-making, which resulted in scores of 75 and 82, respectively. Sarfaraz Khan put the finishing touches on the 227 points gained by the Bangalore-based team. Watson and Yuzvendra Chahal each took two wickets as Hyderabad was reduced to 182.

226/3 against Punjab Kings (2015)

Punjab Kings elected to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore after winning the toss. Gayle and Kohli began the 1st inning. With 117 hits off 57 deliveries that evening, the Gayle storm was in full force. Sreenath Aravind, who led RCB with four wickets, crushed Punjab’s spirit as their batting line-up shrank to just 88.

218/6 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (2018)

Sitting sixth on the list of RCB’s highest scores in IPL was against Sunrisers Hyderabad. RCB survived the competition after winning a thrilling game at M. Chinnaswamy against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In a game that had to be won, RCB maintained their composure to defeat SRH by 14 runs, thanks to the brilliant half-centuries of AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali. RCB scored a staggering 218 for six. Only 204 points were scored in response by SRH.

215/1 against Delhi Capitals (2012)

RCB’s 7th-highest score in IPL was against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium. It was once again Gayle Storm, who scored 128 off 62 balls, including 13 sixes, putting RCB’s total to 215/1. In response, DC tried to fight but only managed to score 194 runs in 20 overs.

213/2 against Gujrat Lions (2017)

Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Gujarat Lions by a score of 21 runs in Rajkot. The visitors held the Gujarat Lions to 192/7 after scoring 213/2 when batting first. Virat Kohli and Travis Head made significant contributions, while Chris Gayle was the star performer for the RCB. Brendon McCullum scored a fluent 71 for Gujarat to keep the chase going, but the former captain of New Zealand received little help from the other end.

213/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders (2019)

In Kolkata, RCB defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by a score of 10 runs. When KKR needed 24 runs from 6 balls to win in the final over, Moeen Ali maintained his composure and managed to contain Andre Russell and Nitish Rana. This came after Virat Kohli’s 100-run inning off just 58 balls that pushed RCB’s score to 213/4 in just 20 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders.

211/3 against Punjab Kings (2016)

On a list of RCB’s highest scores in IPL, RCB’s 211/3 against Punjab Kings ranks tenth. RCB, after batting first, set a target of 212 for PBKS. It was Gayle and Kohli combo attack at Bengaluru scoring at a strike rate of 200 or higher that decided the fate of this epic match. In response, PKBS only managed to score 120/9 and lost the game by the D/L method.

This list of RCB’s highest scores in IPL shows that the team has hit several milestones with such large totals, but the fact that they haven’t won any titles defines the imbalance in all three departments. The RCB franchise has always focused on signing marquee players rather than adding balance to their squad. If the Challengers can look into that in future, they can be one of the most dangerous teams to watch.
