It was another good day of Cricket at the Mecca of the game. The prestigious Lord’s was witnessing another fine innings from the world’s number 2 test batsman who was scoring runs in all directions while the English bowlers had no idea how to get through his unorthodox stance. The lunging bat waving out of off stump suddenly screaming across the line & pushing the ball to the boundary in the mid-wicket region, Ah! what a sight to watch for a cricket fan.
Steve Smith was at it again taking the game away from England like he usually does until, at the score of 80, he faced a fierce in-swinging bouncer that did not bounce as much as he’d anticipated. Bam! It hit right into the unprotected part of his neck & he went down in concussion.
He resumed his innings after 40 minutes only to be finally dismissed by a Chris Woakes’ rapped-into-the-pads delivery at a score of 92. A day later, news started coming in about his severe headache and concussions. In the next innings, Australia’s number 4 replacement Martin Labuschagne came in and got the same taste from the same bowler.
Thankfully, the right-hander survived and made a brave 59* to deny England their maiden test victory in the series. Smith was ruled out of the remaining test match and has also been officially left out for the 3rd test too. Justin Langer, the Aussie Coach is in disbelief of him recovering any time soon.
