Some cricketers not only have a great on-field fan following but also a huge fan base because of their off the field mannerisms. Birthday boy Yuzvendra Chahal is a classic example of that. The Haryana-born spinner has not only taken the cricketing world by storm but also managed to entertain his fans with his wit, humor, and those ‘oh damn!’ moves via TikTok, Insta, and other social media platforms. Fantasy Cricket BalleBaazi celebrates the career and life of Yuzi Chahal.
Let’s take a walkthrough of Yuzi’s contributions on and off the field.
The IPL & Champions League Kick-off
Yuzvendra Chahal was first picked by Mumbai Indians during the 2011 season of the Indian Premier League but he got only one single match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Yuzi got his first consistent gig in the Champions League T20 in the same year and played a vital role in the finale restricting the Royal Challengers Bangalore below the target score of 139 runs. His bowling figure of 3-0-9-2 helped Mumbai lift the title.
The Debut & Harare Connection
Yuzi made his ODI debut & T20I debut in Harare against Zimbabwe in the year 2016. He got into the limelight when he took 3 wickets in a match on that tour and bowled a seam up delivery around 109 km/hr bagging his 1st man of the match award. Chahal never looked back from this tour and the same tour gave us many new youngsters like KL Rahul and Karun Nair. Rahul, in his 1st game, scored his 1st ODI century.
The 6/25 & 6/42 that Changed His Life
The best bowling figures for a spinner in the international T20 scene was delivered by Yuzvendra Chahal when he scalped 6 English wickets in the winters of 2017. His 6/25 remains the best bowling figures by an Indian spinner in T20Is. Another very important 6 wicket gig came during India vs Australia in the series of 2018-19 where he was able to restrict the Aussies to 230 which India chased courtesy knocks of MS Dhoni & Kedar Jadhav.
A Special Chess Connection
Yuzvendra Chahal is also a renowned Chess player. He also features in the Chess federation website and in the early days of his career, he wanted to pursue the game as a professional career but he eventually had to quit because he struggled to find a sponsor. Blessing in disguise is what we can say because we got one of the best entertainers on and off the field of cricket. He pursued chess from 1997 to the year 2003 before his family could not support him with the annual ₹ 5 lakh compensation for his development as a chess player.
Chahal TV & Off the Field Identity
“You watch him on Tik Tok and you simply cannot believe that this guy is an international cricketer representing the country”, mocks his Captain Virat Kohli whenever Yuzvendra Chahal dances with family or makes funny videos on some social networking sites. His Chahal TV is a famous post-match show that he hosts and provides great entertainment as he indulges in a fun chat with the star of the match. Also, his pals from the Indian cricket team keep mocking him with words like ‘teeli’, ‘chuha’ and other funny names that goes to show the kind of great camaraderie he shares with everyone.
Happy Birthday, Yuzi! Keep going and keep growing in every phase of life. BalleBaazi wishes you more wickets and more self-made memes.
