Monk-Like patience, exquisite hand-eye co-ordination & one of the most consistent players of world cricket Hashim Amla joined his ex-teammate ‘the Ace of Pace’ Dale Steyn on Monday in the retirement club. Hashim Amla made his international debut in 2004 against India at Kolkata in a Test match & since then he’d started making an impact on the cricketing world with his class.

Dale Steyn, on the other hand, was the spearhead of the Proteas pace attack over many years breaking the record of highest test wickets by a South African which was previously held by Shaun Pollock. He took a total of 439 wickets in his Test career that spanned just 93 tests.

Amla on the other hand still holds the record for the fastest to 5000,6000 & 7000 ODI runs. He played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs & 44 T20 Internationals for South Africa.

After having a nightmare of a World Cup, while the retirement of these 2 greats comes as a huge setback, it also opens up a new future into Cricket South Africa. The likes of Rabada & Ngidi give them hope in the bowling department but they still lack the maturity of developing into consistent & mature cricketers.

The Proteas have been facing this issue since the retirement of AB de Villiers that has left a huge hole into the think tank of South African Cricket. Faf Du Plessis, the Captain has been shouldering responsibilities of the team for a long while now. With the retirement of Imran Tahir & JP Duminy after the World Cup, a lot many players have become prone to calling it a day from international cricket.

We can only hope for better days and better cricket emerging from South Africa like the way England had to rise from the World Cup of 2015 to the 2019 CWC. After Steyn’s & Amla’s huge calls, it’s an opportunity a lot of young cricketers from the local soil to rise and put their talents to test and make it big into the world cricket arena.
