Afghanistan (278/3) against Ireland (2019)

Afghanistan now holds the record for the greatest T20 score ever with a 278/3 against Ireland on February 23, 2019. Afghan opener Hazratullah Zazai scored a record-breaking 162 runs off just 62 deliveries while playing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun. Usman Ghani added a quick 73 runs to help him along, contributing to the record 236-run stand for the first wicket. Afghanistan won the match by 84 runs despite Ireland’s 194/6 response in their 20 overs.

Czech Republic (278/4) against Turkey (2019)

By scoring 278/4 against Turkey in the Continental Cup on August 30, 2019, the Czech Republic matched the record just six months later. Sudesh Wickramasekara, a middle-order batsman for the Czech Republic, scored the most runs with 104 in 36 balls, followed by Sumit Pokhriyal with 79. In retaliation, Turkey was bowled out for 21 runs in 8.3 overs, the lowest T20 total ever.

Australia (263/3) against Sri Lanka (2016)

With a 263/3 score against Sri Lanka in 2016, the Australian cricket team held the record before Afghanistan and the Czech Republic inscribed their names in history. With an astounding 145 not out off 65 balls, Glenn Maxwell made headlines. As Australia beat their opponents by the world record score, David Warner, Travis Head, and Usman Khawaja all scored runs. With Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland each taking 3/26, the host team finished on 178/9, 85 shy of the goal.

Sri Lanka (260/6) against Kenya (2007)

The way Sanath Jayasuriya led Sri Lanka to a 172-run victory over Kenya at the Wanderers was the epitome of mindblowing bashing. Jehan Mubarak’s late fireworks and Jayasuriya’s whirlwind 88 propelled Sri Lanka to a record team score of 260 for 6, which was much beyond the capabilities of the opponent, as Kenya only managed 88.

India (260/5) against Sri Lanka (2017)

Here comes one of the highest scores in T20 International cricket from the Men in Blue. When India destroyed Sri Lanka in Indore ten years prior, Sri Lanka was on the receiving end of the same score. Rohit Sharma was explosive right away, scoring the joint-fastest T20I century alongside KL Rahul, who scored 89 off 49, and contributed to a record-breaking total. Despite Kusal Perera’s 77 off 37, Sri Lanka never came close in reply, losing by 88 runs.

Czech Republic (258/2) against Bulgaria (2022)

The Czech Republic’s 258 against Bulgaria in the 2022 Valletta Cup is the 6th-highest Twenty20 score by a team. Czech, after batting first, put up a massive score of 258 runs, thanks to Sabawoon Davizi and Dylan Steyn, with both scoring centuries at a strike rate of nearly 200.00. In response, Bulgaria only managed to score 170 runs, ultimately losing the match by 88 runs.

Denmark (256/5) against Gibraltar (2022)

In terms of the highest team score in T20 international cricket, the Danish cricket team is ranked seventh as they defeated Gibraltar on June 29, 2022, at the Royal Brussels Cricket Club Ground in Waterloo, scoring 256 runs while losing 5 wickets. Nicolaj Laegsgaard’s 92 runs on 42 balls put the Denmark score at 256 runs in 20 overs. In response, Gibraltar only managed 124/8 in their 20 overs, and they lost the game by a massive 132 runs.

New Zealand (254/5) against Scotland (2022)

The two-match T20I series versus Scotland was decisively won by New Zealand. On the strength of Mark Chapman’s 44-ball 83, the Black Caps scored their highest-ever total in T20Is and defeated Scotland by 102 runs to win game two of the series. Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell, and Daryl Mitchell all contributed to New Zealand’s record-breaking 254/5 score. The Scotts were never going to be able to reach 254, and the hosts ultimately fell 102 runs short of the goal.

Scotland (252/3) against Netherlands (2019)

This is a surprise addition to the list of highest scores in T20 International cricket. Scotland defeated the Netherlands by 58 runs in the 2nd game of the tri-nation series in Dublin, thanks to George Munsey’s undefeated 127 off 56, which included 32 in one over, and Kyle Coetzer’s 50-ball 89, giving them the 9th-highest T20I total. Munsey and captain Coetzer’s 200-run partnership, which is the 3rd-highest for any wicket in T20Is, propelled Scotland to a staggering total of 252 for 3. In response, the Netherlands could only muster 194 for 7.

Australia (248/6) against England (2013)

In the first of their two Twenty20 internationals, Australia defeated England by 39 runs, thanks to Aaron Finch’s Twenty20 record-breaking 156 off just 63 balls. Australia scored 248-6 at Southampton, the 2nd-highest T20 international score, thanks to Shane Watson’s 16-ball 37. Joe Root led England to victory with a score of 90 unanswered points off 49 deliveries.

Overall, T20 is a game of mixed emotions. Such stats of the highest scores in T20 will only excite people to watch the game even more. Previously, we used to see only the BBL and IPL as the only domestic leagues. Now we can see every country creating its own T20 league. It simply states that the shorter the format, the more excitement.
