On this day in the year 1989, Sydney witnessed the birth of a child who was going to be the second Donald Bradman from Australia. Steven Peter Devereux Smith became an international Australian cricketer for the first time in the year 2010 against Pakistan in a T20 international. Early in the years, he started as an orthodox leg spinner but later on went on to become the best test batsman in the world.

• 144 in his comeback Ashes, 2019

  After the infamous sandpaper incident when Smith was banned along with David Warner for a year from international cricket, cricket Australia missed their captain dearly for the next 12 months. In his comeback test against England at the Ashes, he showed everybody his pure class and the Australian resilience.   On his debut turf at Lord’s, Smith returned and wanted to deliver his best to get Australia a win against arch-rivals England. The 1st test was won by the hosts and this was a must-win game and along with a grand partnership with Chris Rogers, they scored 284 runs and post that Smith became unstoppable as he scored his maiden double hundred for his team and eventually ended the match with a victory.

• 199 at Sabina Park vs West Indies, 2015

  At the famous Sabina Park, Smith came in against Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach getting bounce and swing both. Wickets were falling around him and yet Smith stayed in and scored almost half the runs for his team. He became the 3rd Australian to be dismissed at 199 and eventually helped Australia seal the match and the series at a trademark West Indian bouncy pitch.

• 192 vs India at Melbourne, 2014

  In a series where we saw an Indian Cricket team that was putting immense pressure on the Australians, the third test saw Steve Smith’s class to avoid a defeat. This was the series where king Kohli established his class as a test cricketer and was giving it back to the likes of Mitchell Johnson. One of the best innings from that test match was played by Steve Smith who scored a fighting 192 even though it was not enough for a victory but it definitely prevented India to fight back in the contest.

• 111 vs England at Perth, 2013

  In the third Test at Perth, England was looking to revive the series after the 1st two test matches were completely owned by Australia. Struggling at 143/5 on a bouncy pitch at the WACA, in came Steve Smith and only had Brad Haddin & the tail to partner with. Along with Brad Haddin and Johnson, he piled up a score of 350+ by scoring a valiant 111 and eventually helping in another Australian triumph in the Ashes.
